C.A. Sunshine Dolls

     At the begining of the summer we received an email from a wonderful artist coming from the Windy City, AKA CHICAGO! He seemed to have great enthusiasm for his work and some qualities the Dolls really value, not to mention someone we would completely back. It was somewhere around 1AM here on the PAC coast and there was a phone number, lets call! So with much urging and possible physical abuse Lo had the privilege of being the CASunshinedoll’s official secretary.

     What we met with was a somewhat sleepy voice and great enthusiasm after we introduced ourselves! We promised to ask Cisco if we could promote Kid Rusell and finally Cisco gave the okay! Not only did he give the okay, but Kid Rusell has the privilege of working with Mr. Adler on a project within the next few months! To accompany this great  opportunity we had a long distance sit down with Kidd and he told us a lot about himself and his career!

So, if we had to stick Kidd Russell in a box he’d like to say, “I’m alternative Hip hop.  We root our music in hip hop but experiment with elements of rock, reggae, southern rock, rockabilly to make great songs.” Great songs indeed, very fresh with some California vibes. We also asked Kidd who inspires him the most musically speaking he said that he “Really loves any artist who just has something to say whether its tupac, biggie or nirvana.  Even a great country song that just pours emotion out of you.  I think certain artists I pull from or enjoy listening to would be 90’s hip hop, Common, Kanye, 90’s alternative, kid rock, counrty, a little 311, sublime, shwayze, rehab…..things like that!” Sufice it to say Kidd is a definate amalgam of taste, this really sounds like my iPod on shuffle!

Kidd Russell wants his music to “make you feel like a sponge and each song squeezes a different emotion out of you that makes you remember why you love being ALIVE! I always want to inspire the hopeless.  Entertain the people working 9 to 5. I like to touch on things that are important to my life like my friends and family, drama, horrible bosses, fucked up subjects like school shootings, love, relationships…what ever is on my mind. Many songs I write I write to inspire people who have a dream but think they could never achieve it, I want them to know that its possible and in reality I’m trying to prove that to myself.”What i got from his statement was not only does he want to help other people with his music, but he is helped by it as well.

If Kidd could choose his ideal demographic it would be people age “15-40 men and women who care about their friends and family, likes hitting the beach with a cold drink, people active in their communities, live active life styles, college kids, sports fans, x gamers, skate boarders, suburban kids, skiers…..” He just wants to touch on anyone and everyone no matter what.

In his opinion Kidd believes people should listen to his music “Cuz its sexy lol.  I think you’ll listen to my music for different reasons.  Songs like RUsh ROck Remix you’ll put on while working out or when you get up to get you motivated.  Songs like “e north ave” you put on to chill or party! A song like “dear shooter” you’ll play cuz you pissed off at all the violence in the world and you want to do something about it.  Or a song like “backyard heroes you’ll put on to remember what it was like when you were growing up and how special your friends are!  I said it before up top I always want my music to get an emotion from  you so you remember why you love being ALIVE!” I think everyone needs to be reminded of why they love to live once in a while.

So with all honesty, how old are you? “29 going on 21 lol” I love the way he does math! 

We’d like to know, Do you write your own music?   “I write all the words in my music. As of now Matt Jenkins produces all my music but soon to add a few more names to that list ;).” Wonder who’s names those are going to be, hopefully a few that are familiar to The Dolls. 

So, How long have you been working at the music biz? “Since 2005 professionally.  But I’ve been making music since 2001 just super bootleg and horrible.  My first successful song I released a theme song for my girls powder puff team in college it was called “Hey Ladies”  and it spread around school like wild fire and ever since I’ve been going strong!” Kidd Russell is an artist with a great sense of humor and history. We really enjoy his music and look forward to the project with Cisco himself, if Cisco took an interest we can bet there is beauty and promise in Kidd Russell’s future!
